JODY AUSTIN is a Registered Professional Nurse with specialties in Nurse Education, Mentorship, Cardiology, Oncology, Community Health, and Emergency Medicine.
She is also a retired veteran from the United States Air Force (Master Sergeant), who served 21 years in the Medical Corps, including tours of duties in Desert Shield/Desert Storm, Operation Southern Watch, Operation Enduring/Iraqi Freedom.
As a classically trained musician Jody has performed with numerous ensembles and bands. As a poet, her performance style is incredibly versatile, drawing inspiration from such greats as Nikki Giovanni, Sonia Sanchez, Marcus Garvey, Phylis Wheatley, Langston Hughes, Paul Lawrence Dunbar, Chavez, Gil Scott Heron, Khalil Gibran, The Last Poets, and many others.
“MY SISTER’S KEEPER” is an interactive poetic play written by, for and about women, that incorporates dance and music into the storytelling.Jody and her ensemble cast address issues that include womanhood, young women and self-esteem, incarceration, relationships, body image, feminism, racial justice, domestic violence, cultural preservation, and empowerment (phoenix rising) that women face on a day to day basis throughout the lifespan that will touch the lives of women from all walks of life from a multicultural perspective.
